The Strategic Development Department of Tbilisi State Medical University was established on 19 February 2007. In 2012 according to the decision (No 23/6) of the University Representatives Board the Department was renamed as Department of Medical Education, Research and Strategic Development.
In its activities the Department is guided by its provisions (21.10.2013 #23/6), the University Statute and administrative acts issued by the Rector of Tbilisi State Medical University. Since 2012 Faculty Development Center has been functioning under the Department structure; the Center provides trainings for the University personnel on the issues of medical education and modern management methodologies.
In 2022 according to the decision N23/6 of the University Representatives Board the Department was renamed as the Faculty Development and Strategic Planning Department.
