On October 21, 2019 Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to Georgia H.E. Petr Mikyska, Deputy Minister of Health of the Czech Republic, Radek Policar and representatives of Czech Development Agency visited TSMU Givi Zhvania Academic Pediatric Clinic. The meeting was held about implementation of long-term services and palliative care for children in Georgia, at TSMU Givi Zhvania Academic Pediatric Clinic. Prof. Zurab Vadachkoria, TSMU Rector talked about the signed memoranda between three parties:  the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labor, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia, Czech Development Agency and Tbilisi State Medical University. The aim of memoranda is to develop long-term care and palliative services for children with incurable and chronic diseases. “A new, separate five-storey building will be built at the Givi Zhvania Academic Pediatric Clinic of TSMU which will be connected to the main building. The project is the best example of charity, financed by the TSMU and Czech Development Agency” – noted Prof. Zurab Vadachkoria.

Lia Dzidziguri, the General Director of TSMU Givi Zhvania Academic Pediatric Clinic stated, TSMU academic staff will be employed at the new Center. “Development of palliative service is very important, as children with incurable and chronic diseases stay at home and it is very difficult for their families to support and take care of them. The new Center will give opportunity to such families to take care of incurable children at the Clinic”.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to Georgia H.E. Petr Mikyska, noted the significance of the project and talked about the future collaboration plans. The project “Implementation of Services of Long-Term and Palliative Care for Children in Georgia” is initiated by the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labor, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia and is being implemented under Tripartite Memorandum of November 11, 2017 between Czech Development Agency and Tbilisi State Medical University. Within the frame of the project, the Center with high standard will be constructed nearby G. Zhvania Pediatric Academic Clinic.  The Center will provide children with palliative services. The costs of construction will be covered by the Tbilisi State Medical University. The Czech side will provide high standards medical inventory and devices.
