On November 5, 2020 TSMU was visited by Head of Mission Caritas Czech Republic, Jan Blinka and Projects Manager, Tamar Kurtanidze. The guests were met by Professor Zurab Vadachkoria, Rector of Tbilisi State Medical University, Associate Professor, Irakli Kokhreidze, TSMU Vice Rector, Prof. Rema Gvamichava, Head of Oncology Department, Assistant Prof. Ioseb Abesadze, Associate Prof. Lia Dzidziguri, Head of TSMU G.Zhvania Pediatric Academic Clinic, Alexander Buachidze, Vice Chancellor and Irina Kapetivadze, Head of the Rector’s Office. The main objective of discussion was a memoranda “Establishment of Children’s Long Term and Palliative Care Services in Georgia” within the framework of collaboration between Georgia and the Czech Republic.
Building process of a new children’s LTC center at G.Zhvania Pediatric Academic Clinic will be finalized very soon. Within the framework of the project, the building process of a new center is financed by TSMU. On the other hand, the Czech partners are responsible for equipment of the center with high standard medical equipment and inventory. Assoc. Prof. Lia Dzidziguri, Head of TSMU G. Zhvania Pediatric Academic Clinic, thanked partners for cooperation and support. The guests discussed the development of pediatric services in Georgia and underlined role of staff trainings which should be held by TSMU and G.Zhvania Pediatric Academic Clinic.
Special attention was paid to Zugdidi Screening Center which meets the highest requirements and challenges not only in Georgia, but in the entire region. Prof. Rema Gvamichava noted that the center might become a teaching center for summer schools. Founders of the screening center are four TSMU professors, consequently the center includes educational directions as well.
Professor Zurab Vadachkoria, TSMU Rector thanked the guests for their cooperation and noted, Caritas Czech Republic is a reliable and always desirable partner in Georgia. At the end of the meeting future plans were discussed and memorable gifts were exchanged between the partners.
