An International Association for Medical Education (traditionally known as the Association for Medical Education in Europe- AMEE) is the most authoritative and representative organization worldwide that coordinates and guides all important innovations in medical education. AMEE organizes conferences annually to discuss new methodologies, achievements and future perspectives in medical education.

The AMEE conference is held virtually on September 7-9, 2020 due to Covid-19 pandemic. Despite the unusual format, more than 3000 delegates from 93 countries around the world take part in the conference. The conference was opened on the first day by AMEE President Professor Trevor Gibbs. At the end of his opening speech, the President of AMEE awarded Professor Zurab Vadachkoria, Rector of Tbilisi State Medical University, with AMEE honorary fellowship for his outstanding contribution to the development and innovation of medical education in Georgia and the South Caucasus. In response, Professor Zurab Vadachkoria thanked Professor Trevor Gibbs for such recognition of his work, highlighting the traditional, long-standing and fruitful collaboration between Tbilisi State Medical University and AMEE. The most significant manifestation of this was the opening of the third AMEE International Networking Center worldwide at Tbilisi State Medical University in 2019, where regular trainings in medical education methodology are conducted.
