Associate Professor Nana Mebonia, Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics of Tbilisi State Medical University, presented on the achievements and challenges of cancer control in Georgia at World Cancer Control Conference in Barcelona. The conference aimed to promote equitable access to cancer care and support healthcare development. Participants included representatives from international organizations such as the International Cancer Control Partnership, the World Health Organization, the International Atomic Energy Agency and leading experts from Barcelona’s healthcare institutions.
Panel discussions highlighted that, in February 2019, Tbilisi became the first European city to join this international program, following a memorandum of understanding with Georgia’s Ministry of Labor, Health, and Social Affairs.
On 16–17 September, Professor Nana Mebonia held working meetings at the Catalonia Oncology Institute with local experts on early cancer detection, screening programs and cancer management in tertiary care institutions. Meetings were led by Joseph Maria Borasi, Head of the Catalonia Cancer Control Department, Joseph Espinazi, Screening Program Coordinator and Paula Manchon Walsh, Coordinator for Cancer Treatment Quality Assessment.
