On March 11-17, 2018 Associate Professor of Internal Medicine, Zviad Kirtava visited Malta for short-term scientific purposes in scope of European Union Project “INTRFASOL - Intergovernmental Family Solidarity in Europe”. Assoc. Prof. Kirtava met Mr. Patrick Velas, the Head of Aging and Local Assistance Department, Deputies, Mrs. Ritean Boutigeeg and Ms. Alexia Velas, Managers of Individual Sections, Professor Maria Fenak, Ms. Cynthia Foreomas, Mrs. Joanna Tant, Mr. Alex Gaby and Mr. Matthew Mangion. At the meeting the model of care for the elderly people was discussed including development of on-site help, care homes, active aging programs and day care centers. Prof. Kirtava visited modern houses of elderly people in Valletta and Meliheh, Active Care Center on the island of Gozo and School of Special Needs’ Children in Varda.

Within the framework of the visit Prof. Kirtava met the representatives of the Malta University of Geriatrics, Health Management and Social Welfare Departments, Professor of Gerontology Faculty, Maria Fennec and one of the pioneers of Geriatrics, Dr. Anthony Fioren. Dr. Fiorini said that he is interested in cooperation with Tbilisi State Medical University. Moreover, the rehabilitation hospital is planned to open on the basis of TSMU First University Clinic.

Prof. Kirtava delivered a lecture for staff and students of Gerontology and Social Welfare Faculties, "Electronic Health and Mobile Health: Medicine - Social Assistance - Experience from Georgia". The presentation of short-term scientific visit is planned on the conference in Luxemburg.
