From December 14 to December 17, 2022 Tbilisi State Medical University delegation, invited by Professor Armen Muradyan Rector of Mkhitar Heratsi Yerevan State Medical University visited the Yerevan State Medical University (YSMU).
Professor Zurab Vadachkoria, Rector of Tbilisi State Medical University and Head of the Children and Adolescent Maxillo-facial Surgery and Surgical Stomatology Department, Professor Khatuna Todadze TSMU Vice Rector for Academic Affairs and Head of the Narcology Department, Professor Marina Mamaladze Head of the TSMU Odontology Department, Professor Archil Undilashvili Head of the TSMU Physical Rehabilitation Policy and Strategic Management Department and Head of the USMD program and Irina Kapetivadze Head of the Rector’s Office were the members of the TSMU delegation.
Within the framework of the visit the TSMU delegation met Professor Armen Muradyan Rector of Mkhitar Heratsi Yerevan State Medical University, Vice Rectors, Head of the Rector’s Office, Deans of the Faculties, Head of the Career Development Department, Head of the International Relations Department and Yerevan State Medical University administration. Perspectives of future cooperation between the universities in the field of education, science and clinical activities were discussed at the meeting.
Professor Konstantin Yenkoyan, the Vice-Rector for Science of Yerevan State Medical University presented a report on the history, structure and achievements of the Yerevan State Medical University. “Currently, more than 5381 students, 265 residents, 84 physician job-seekers, 61 master students and 3 doctoral students are studying at the medical university,” said Professor Konstantin Yenkoyan. The Vice-Rector also talked about achievements and activities of university clinics and the Soldier’s Home Rehabilitation Center. Professor Konstantin Yenkoyan highlighted scientific achievements and projects developed within the framework of HORIZON 2020 (COBRAIN, ARICE, SCAUT) at the Yerevan State Medical University. Activities of the University College “Heratsi” were also discussed at the meeting. “We are striving to obtain international accreditation. Currently, 2055 active international students from 33 countries are studying at the Yerevan State Medical University” said Professor Armen Muradyan Rector of Mkhitar Heratsi Yerevan State Medical University.
Professor Marina Mamaladze, Head of the TSMU Odontology Department was interested in the educational process at the Faculty of Stomatology. Professor Lazar Yesayan, Dean of the Faculty of Stomatology talked about activities and educational processes of the faculty. Professor Marina Mamaladze emphasized the importance of mutual cooperation of Armenian and Georgian experts on international platforms.
Professor Zurab Vadachkoria, Rector of Tbilisi State Medical University expressed his gratitude to Professor Armen Muradyan and the university administration for warm greetings. “We are interested in strengthening cooperation with the Yerevan State Medical University. I am sure that the Mkhitar Heratsi Yerevan State Medical University under the leadership of Professor Armen Muradyan will become more successful on an international platform” – said Professor Zurab Vadachkoria.
At the end of the meeting the Georgian delegation gave memorable gifts to the Armenian guests. The TSMU delegation was invited to attend the academic council of the Yerevan State Medical University. The Chairman of the academic council nominated Professor Zurab Vadachkoria Rector of Tbilisi State Medical University for the title of Honorary Doctor. The suggestion was approved by the members of the council. The TSMU Rector expressed his gratitude and highlighted he is proud to become an Honorary Doctor of the Mkhitar Heratsi Yerevan State Medical University. TSMU Rector presented a memorable gift – a handmade image on glass of the main building of the Yerevan State Medical University by a Georgian artist.
During the visit to the Yerevan State Medical University, the delegation of the Tbilisi State Medical University visited the Scientific-Educational Center for Fundamental Brain Research "COBRAIN", the examination center, the art exhibition of the students of the Faculty of Dentistry. The YSMU students granted the members of the TSMU delegation their paintings.
Within the framework of the visit, the TSMU delegation also visited YSMU Clinical Skills Center and University Clinic named after Mikaelyan. The guests met the director of the clinic, heads of the departments and were introduced to the educational process and clinical activities. The TSMU delegation was especially impressed by the infrastructure of the Soldier’s Home Rehabilitation Center. The center is equipped with modern medical equipment, library, lounges and dining room. The environment contributes to the rapid socialization and rehabilitation process of disabled persons.
The visit to the Mkhitar Heratsi Yerevan State Medical University was successful and interesting for the Georgian delegation. The members of the Georgian delegation hope the cooperation activities between the universities will be strengthened and equally beneficial for both sides.
