TSMU Joined Unique Project

With the initiative of the Department of Molecular and Medical Genetics, TSMU and the Georgian Society of Medical Genetics and Epigenetics (GSMGE) Georgia joined international project initiated by charity organization Unique.

The aim of the project is to issue information guides about rare chromosome and single-gene diseases for those affected with rare diseases, their families, medical professionals, students and everyone interested in these conditions.

Unique has already issued many guides in English, as well as in many other different languages. We are happy to announce that now information is available in Georgian language as well. Over 80 students are actively involved in the translation of the guides, which are further checked by the Department’s academic stuff.

It should be noted that this is the first time a project of such a format and scale on raising awareness about rare diseases is implemented in Georgian language and we are twice happy, that the future generation of doctors – our students, are involved in this important endeavor.

To view the disorder guides in Georgian language please visit the following web site. The information content will be constantly updated: https://www.rarechromo.org/disorder-guides/

The leader of the project is Prof. Tinatin Tkemaladze, Emerit. Prof. Elene Abzianidze, coordinator – Assoc. Prof. Ketevan Kankava, Department of Molecular and Medical Genetics, TSMU.
