On November 16, 2021 conference “Modern Approaches to Radiation Risk Management in Urban Zones (Systems)” was organized at Tbilisi State Medical University. The event was organized by the TSMU, the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Health, Labour and Social Affairs of Georgia, Ivane Beritashvili Center of Experimental Biomedicine and Tbilisi Municipality City Hall.
The conference was attended by the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture Agency of Nuclear and Radiation Safety representatives, field specialists, residents and students. The event was opened by Professor Zurab Orjonikidze, TSMU Chancellor, Giorgi Chavchavadze, Head of the Health Policy Department of the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Health, Labour and Social Affairs of Georgia, Irakli Gvilava, Head of the Municipal Department of Culture, Education, Sport and Youth Affairs of Tbilisi City Hall, Professor Tamar Sanikidze, Head of the TSMU Department of Physics, Biophysics, Biomechanics and Informational Technologies, Professor Otar Urushadze, TSMU Department of Radiology and Giorgi Ormotsadze, Head of the Radiation Safety Problems Department of the I. Beritashvili Center of Experimental Biomedicine.

Current issues of radiation risk assessment and management, medical and healthcare professionals training, ways to raise public awareness about the radiation risks, safe imaging practices during the COVID-19 pandemic and aspects of finding possible early sensitive markers of radio-induced lesions were discussed at the conference.
