On November 15, 2024 a scientific conference dedicated to World Diabetes Day was organized at Tbilisi State Medical University. The event was attended by Tamar Gabunia, Deputy Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health, and Social Affairs of Georgia, representatives from the medical field and academic and administrative staff of TSMU. 

The conference was opened by Professor Irakli Natroshvili, Rector of TSMU. 

“Uniting people to fight against diabetes is crucial. I am pleased to see this day celebrated with our guests. Thank you all for your participation,” said Professor Irakli Natrosvhili.

Tamar Gabunia, Deputy Minister of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Labour, Health, and Social Affairs of Georgia, addressed the audience:

“It is an honor to meet you today. It is crucial for us that individuals with diabetes can lead fulfilling lives. The involvement of Tbilisi State Medical University in this process is essential. Thank you for your efforts in building a strong platform for diabetes management in Georgia.”

Professor Marina Gordeladze, Head of the Department of Endocrinology of TSMU spoke about diabetes as a disease and its treatment approaches. 

Associate Professor of Geneva University Hospital and Head of the Swiss Tissue Engineering and Organ Regeneration Laboratory Ekaterine Berishvili-Bern presented a lecture: "Modern Approaches and Scientific Achievements in the Treatment of Type 1 Diabetes."

Within the framework of World Diabetes Day celebrations, an event was held a day earlier, on November 14, at G. Zhvania Pediatric Academic Clinic of TSMU. This included educational and recreational activities where successful young athletes with Type 1 diabetes were awarded.
