TSMU Professors’ visit to the University Hospital of Milano-Bicocca

Assistant Professor Mariam Ghughunishvili, Department of Child and Adolescent Medicine and Assistant Professor Natia Chkhaidze, Department of Pediatrics at Tbilisi State Medical University participated in a professional visit to Italy within the framework of the Erasmus+ Academic Mobility Program.

From April 20 to May 3, TSMU representatives were actively involved in the activities of the Pediatric Department at the University Hospital of Milano-Bicocca, where they had the opportunity to participate in daily clinical processes and familiarize themselves with contemporary international medical practices.

During the traineeship, particular attention was paid to modern approaches to pediatric patient management, local clinical guidelines, diagnostic methods, and patient monitoring practices. Special focus was placed on the management and treatment of metabolic diseases.

Within the framework of the visit, the TSMU representatives also became acquainted with the multidisciplinary working model implemented at the clinic, which involved regular consultations among specialists from various clinical departments. The TSMU representatives actively participated in multidisciplinary patient case discussions.

As part of the professional mobility program, the assistant professors attended clinical case discussions, where special emphasis was placed on the analysis of complex and interesting clinical cases, the evaluation of diagnostic and therapeutic strategies, and the discussion of modern medical approaches.

In addition, meetings were held with both the former and current directors of the clinic. The parties discussed prospects for future cooperation, opportunities for conducting joint scientific research, and the importance of strengthening international professional collaboration.

The TSMU representatives also familiarized themselves with local principles of postgraduate medical education and models of professional development.
