On September 8-10, 2022 International Conference “Science, Sports and Medicine XI” was organized by the University of Tartu (Estonia). Professor Lela Maskhulia, Dean of the Faculty of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and MD Valeri Akhalkatsi, Director of TSMU Clinical Center of Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation were invited at the conference. 

TSMU representatives presented reports “Effects of non-functional overreaching and overtraining on responses of skeletal muscle and cardiac biomarkers for monitoring overtraining syndrome in athletes” (Prof. Lela Maskhulia) and “Assessment of risks for the development of arthrofibrosis and prevention of knee extension deficit following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction “(MD Valeri Akhalkatsi). Prof. Lela Maskhulia was a moderator of one of the sessions and MD Valeri Akhalkatsi chaired the session: “Overload injuries in sports: prevention and treatment”. 

TSMU representatives met Professor Eve Unt, Head of Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation Clinic of the Tartu University Hospital and Director of residency program, Professor Priit Kaasik Head of the Institute of Sport Sciences and Physiotherapy, Professor Vahur Oopik, Head of Exercise Physiology Department. Mutual cooperation plans including development of physical medicine and rehabilitation higher education programs at Tbilisi Medical University and University of Tartu were planned at the meeting.
