On February 2 and 3 Professor Tamar Didbaridze, Head of the Department of Microbiology of Tbilisi State Medical University and Associate Professor Elene Pachkoria, Department of Infectious Diseases participated in the Annual Scientific Meeting of the European Clinical Research Alliance on Infectious Diseases (Ecraid), in Utrecht, Netherlands.

The two-day scientific forum focused on contemporary strategies for the management of infectious diseases and the advancement of clinical research across Europe. Emphasis was placed on novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches for acute respiratory and urinary tract infections, strategies to combat antimicrobial resistance, and modern intensive care protocols. Discussions also addressed the role of international research platforms, including Ecraid and RECOVERY-EU, as well as the importance of epidemiological data analysis in shaping effective healthcare policies and ensuring pandemic preparedness.

Working sessions were conducted both in closed working group formats and in open plenary sessions. Representatives of TSMU also participated in a closed meeting of the Clinical Liaison Board, during which interim results of the organization’s grant-funded projects were evaluated and the readiness of various countries to engage in ongoing research initiatives were assessed.

Within the framework of the meeting, TSMU representatives expressed particular interest in a Phase III clinical trial (YV44878 Zosurabalpin, Roche), aimed at evaluating the efficacy, safety, and pharmacokinetics of zosurabalpin in patients infected with the Acinetobacter baumannii–calcoaceticus complex.

According to the University representatives, they reviewed the study protocol in detail and formally expressed the interest and readiness of TSMU’s First University Clinic to participate in the trial from Georgia. As noted by the professors of TSMU, active negotiations regarding participation in the study are currently underway.
