In May, 2019 Regional Medical Education Hub - an International Association for Medical Education (AMEE) International Networking Center in Georgia was founded at Tbilisi State Medical University. The aim of the Center is to provide educators and professors of higher education institutions with the latest methods of teaching, learning and assessment. The first AMEE Interactive Training Course “Essential Skills in Medical Education”- ESME was held in May. Today a new five-days training course “Essential Skills in Medical Education Assessment” – ESMEA is led by Professor Trevor Gibbs, the President of AMEE and WFME Consultant in Medical Education. After completion four ESME full-time courses, participants will be awarded with Internationally Recognized Certificate of Specialist in Medical Education. 42 professors from various Georgian Universities participate in the training and 25 of them are TSMU professors.

“AMEE has already established three Regional Networking Centers around the world and one of them is in Georgia. We are proud as AMEE has chosen Tbilisi State Medical University to open its regional center. It means that TSMU has gained a high international authority and recognition”, noted Professor Gaiane Simonia, Head of the Department of Medical Education, Research and Strategic Development.

“At TSMU AMEE International Networking Center in Georgia the second training in assessment of students’ competences is held. Assessment has an important role in medical education as people’s health focuses around medical education and in particular, methods of students’ assessment. Being a professional doctor can only be achieved through a quality of relevant education, in other words, if we want to create good doctors it can be achieved only by professional educators. Consequently, it will ensure healthy society. Training participants critically analyzed and discussed modern methods of assessment. Next days based on practical cases we will discuss and analyze assessment methods in details”, said Professor Trevor Gibbs, the President of AMEE.
