Visit of Professor Marina Mamaladze, Head of the Department of Odontology of TSMU to Milan (Italy)

The International Council Meeting of the International College of Dentists (ICD), one of the oldest global organizations of dental professionals was held in Milan, Italy on October 23-25, 2025. The International Council consists of representatives (Chancellors) from 20 ICD sections worldwide, with each section represented by its own delegate on the Council.

Since 2023, Georgia has been included as an independent structural unit within the European Section, where Professor Marina Mamaladze serves as a Regent. The European Section is currently represented on the International Council by Dr. Walter Van Driel from the Netherlands, whose term will expire in June 2026. At the European Section Regents Council held in June 2025, Professor Marina Mamaladze’s candidacy for the position of Chancellor of the International Council was unanimously approved. She will officially assume her duties in 2026, following the 69th Congress of the ICD European Section.

During the Council meeting, several organizational issues were discussed, including dental initiatives implemented by ICD’s 20 sections. Emphasis was placed on inter-sectional cooperation, educational initiatives, student motivation programs and charitable projects.

As part of the meeting, the election of the Global President of the International College of Dentists also took place — the College will be chaired for one year by Dr. Jose Rodriguez (USA).

The Council also approved the decision that the next ICD International Council Meeting will be held on September 24–25, 2026, in Toronto, Canada.
