The International Olympic Committee World Conference was attended by the TSMU Professors

On November 25-27, 2021 the International Olympic Committee World Conference on the Prevention of Injury and Illness in Sport was organized in Monaco. Professor Lela Maskhulia, Dean of the Tbilisi State Medical University Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Faculty, Assistant Professor and Vice Dean, Nino Tskhvediani, and Associate Professor, Zurab Kakhabrishvili were invited to the congress. 

The congress was opened by the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adano Gebreusus. The Director highlighted the importance of safety for athletes during the pandemic and core role of physical activities in the post COVID-19 pandemic period. 

Professor Lela Maskhulia participated in the teamwork of the cardiologists within the framework of the congress. The team discussed the further complications of the COVID-19 in the cardiovascular system, the protocol of detection and management of the disease among athletes. They also discussed prospects of scientific research in the field. 

Associate Professor Zurab Kakhabrishvili shared the experience of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games preparation, injuries and treatments of athletes during the competition.  

The TSMU team met Italian (Foro Italico University of Rome) and British (St George’s University of London) colleagues and discussed further collaboration plans in development of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation educational programs.
