On October 1-2, 2022 International Scientific-Practical
Conference “Georgian Scientific Pharmacy: Past and Present” was organized at
Tbilisi State Medical University. The conference was dedicated to the TSMU Pharmacochemistry Institute 90 th and Academician Iovel Kutateladze 135
th anniversary.
The event was organized by Tbilisi State Medical University,
I.Kutateladze Institute of Pharmacochemistry and Association of Scientists and
Young Pharmacists of Georgia.
The conference was opened by Assoc. Prof. Lasha Mskhiladze,
Acting Director of the I.Kutateladze Institute of Pharmacochemistry. "Georgia
is a country of the ancient culture of medicine, pharmacy and pharmacology.
This event is a proof and prolongation of the tradition. I.Kutateladze
Institute of Pharmacochemistry with a 90-year history is a regional leader in
natural resources research. Fundamental and applied research carried out at the
institute enhanced development of various drugs, cosmetic products, a chemical
reagent and a plant growth stimulator in Georgia.
The organizing committee of the conference invited a group
of scientists from Europe and Asia to present and share experience and recent
advances in major areas of pharmaceutical science: pharmacognosy,
phytochemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmaceutical technology,
pharmaceutical analysis and standardization methods, pharmacoeconomics,
pharmaceutical management and marketing, pharmacology, clinical pharmacy, bio
pharmacy, chemistry and synthesis of bioactive compounds"- Assoc.
Prof. Lasha Mskhiladze said.
Professor Zurab Vadachkoria, Rector of Tbilisi State Medical
University highlighted, the development of pharmacy as a field of science in
Georgia is associated with the name of Academician Iovel Kutateladze and
scientists the academician supervised.
“The scientific school of pharmacy is one of the most
valuable schools at Tbilisi State Medical University. I am proud since 2010 the
Institute of Pharmacochemistry named after Iovel Kutateladze is a member of its
alma mater - Tbilisi State Medical University. Our main goal is to develop
medicine and pharmacy fields in Georgia”, - said Professor Zurab
Vadachkoria.
Professor Nikoloz Gongadze, Head of the TSMU Department of
Pharmacology, Academician Ether Kemertelidze, Department of Steroidal
Substances of I. Kutateladze Institute of Pharmacochemistry and Eliko Kutateladze,
granddaughter of Academician Iovel Kutateladze delivered speeches. Professors,
scientists and doctoral students of the Tbilisi State Medical University,
Tbilisi State University and Sokhumi State University participated in the
conference.
TSMU Honorary Doctor, Professor Athina Geronikaki,
Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece), Professors Gary Gellerman
and Leonid Patsenker, Ariel University (Israel), Professor Arie Gruzman,
Bar-Ilan University (Israel), Professor Vladimir Ioffe, Expert at Teva
Pharmaceutical Industries (Israel), Professor Gerhard Scriba, Friedrich
Schiller University (Germany), Professor Narine Durgaryan, Yerevan State University
(Armenia), Dr. Samuel Sirakian,The National Academy of Sciences of
the Republic of Armenia were among guests of the conference.
The scientific part of the conference covered young
researchers’ forum and master class workshop: “Analytical Challenges in Drug
Development: Need in Orthogonal Chromatographic Methods”.
