Georgia without Tobacco

On March 29, 2018, event: "Georgia without Tobacco" - was organized by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Social Affairs of Georgia, National Center for Disease Control and Public Health and Tbilisi State Medical University. The goal of the meeting was to raise public awareness about the tobacco control policies, and encourage society how to release from the smoke of tobacco.

Prof. Khatuna Todadze, TSMU Vice-Rector welcomed the audience and emphasized the important role of the University in the process of adoption and enforcement of the initiative in the society:

"It is noteworthy that the meeting is organized at our university, as we, the medical staff and students, are well aware about the harm tobacco is bringing to our health and finances. That is why we will be one of the first institutions that will be involved in the activities against tobacco consumption.”

Mr. Kaki Zoidze - Chairman of Health and Social Issues Committee, Ms. Maia Lagvilava - the Deputy Minister of Labour, Health and Social Welfare and Ms. Guguli Maghradze - Deputy Chairperson of Education, Science and Culture Committee, from Parliament of Georgia shared their opinions about the prevention of tobacco consumption. Mr. Amiran Gamkrelidze – The Director of National Center for Disease Control and Public Health, introduced regulations related to the tobacco use. Maria Ivanusha - World Health Organization Representative, noted: “there are a lot of tobacco addicted people in the country, but hopefully, after regulating the system, positive results will become visible”. 

Please be informed tobacco control policy and new regulations will be launched from May 1, 2018.
