The Lecture by Professor Hadar Spivak at Tbilisi State Medical University

On January 9, 2014, Professor Hadar Spivak, Director of the Center for Obesity Correlation at Chaim Sheba Medical Center (Tel Hashomer, Israel) was on the official visit at Tbilisi State medical University to deliver lectures on “Obesity and type 2 Diabetes - Is surgery an effective treatment?”  for TSMU students, residents and academic staff.

Professor Hadar Spivak discussed:  health care challenges/problems, like Obesity and chronic diseases (type 2 diabetes, hypertensive disease, osteoarthritis, etc.), modern methods of  treatment with  bariatric surgery,  that are increasingly popular in developed countries.

At the lecture were considered:  bariatric laparoscopy surgeries (gastric bandage, gastric shunting and other types of gastroplastia), post-operative complications and their management, surgery results as for short as well as long-term perspectives.

During the lecture, Professor Spivak showed video material visualizing the discussed issues. To the end of the lecture the question and answer session was arranged.      

Within the frame of the visit Prof. Hadar Spivak met Mr. Zurab Orjonikidze, TSMU Chancellor who spoke about University traditions its Western orientation and modern teaching approaches based on these values. They discussed and planned further cooperation.
