Tbilisi State Medical University proudly hosted the internationally licensed English-language event TEDxTSMU for the second time. This year’s theme, “Discover the Power of Ideas,” served as the guiding message of the conference.
The mission of TEDxTSMU is to share innovative and inspiring ideas and visions, while raising awareness and informing the public on pressing issues through diverse and meaningful dialogue.
The event was officially opened by Professor Irakli Natrosvili, Rector of TSMU who emphasized: “Tbilisi State Medical University has been granted a license to organize a TEDx event in English, which is of particular significance. It once again highlights our university’s international focus and active participation in the global academic space.”
This year’s TEDxTSMU featured an impressive lineup of both Georgian and international speakers from a wide range of fields:
• Giorgi Gagoshidze – Street artist
• Ezra Freeman – Content creator and TV presenter
• Daro Sulakauri – Photographer, TED Fellow, and human rights advocate
• Prof. Tinatin Tkemaladze – Head of the Department of Genetics at TSMU
• Nikoloz Kvachadze – Emergency medicine physician
• Janadi Karavita – 6th-year TSMU medical student
• Eman Elimam – 6th-year TSMU medical student
One of the most impactful talks came from Professor Tinatin Tkemaladze, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, who spoke on the importance of diagnosis in the context of rare diseases. She remarked: “Although rare diseases are uncommon individually, collectively they affect approximately 300 million people worldwide. My talk represents the voice of those 300 million.”
