Graduation Ceremony for the Class of 2025 at Tbilisi State Medical University

On July 18, 2025, Tbilisi State Medical University hosted the graduation ceremony for the Class of 2025, marking an important milestone in the lives of its students and the University community. 766 graduates from the Faculties of Medicine, Stomatology, Pharmacy, Public Health, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the International Faculties of Medicine and Stomatology and the Bachelor’s Programmes in Nursing and Midwifery graduated from the medical university.

Professor Irakli Natroshvili, Rector of Tbilisi State Medical University had a welcoming speech and greeted representatives of the legislative and executive branches of government, municipal authorities, members of the academic community, graduates, and their families. He congratulated the graduates on the successful completion of their studies and underscored the significance of their diligence, perseverance and professional development:

“Today is your day – the symbolic conclusion of a significant chapter in your lives. Studying at TSMU has never been an easy undertaking; it demands hard work, determination and moral resilience. You have demonstrated the capacity to achieve ambitious goals. I extend special gratitude to your parents, who have been your steadfast support throughout this journey, and to the academic and administrative staff of the University, who have striven to ensure that your years here were not only a period of knowledge acquisition, but also one of personal growth.
I urge you always to remain empathetic towards those whom you serve, never to be complacent with what you have achieved, and to remain at the forefront of a medical profession that evolves and advances every day. I wish you success in all stages of life. Remember – Tbilisi State Medical University will always be proud of your accomplishments” said the TSMU rector.

Mr. Givi Mikanadze, Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia congratulated the graduates on this significant occasion and noted: “One stage of your life has come to a close and another begins – a path where the knowledge you have gained must be translated into professional practice. I want to express my gratitude to your professors and lecturers, who have invested their energy and expertise in you. Many physicians educated within these walls have achieved international recognition and still represent our country abroad. One of the primary objectives of our country is to foster education and development – the foundation for placing our country among the developed nations of the world. This is particularly critical in the field of medicine. Your knowledge and expertise must serve the advancement of Georgia. What you have gained here can become the basis for strengthening and refining our healthcare system. The future of our nation rests upon you – you are the architects of Georgia’s tomorrow. I am confident that you will never forget the Hippocratic Oath.”

Mr. Mikheil Sarjveladze, Minister of Health, Labour and Social Affairs of Georgia highlighted: “The only profession I might hold in the highest regard above all others is that of doctors. Congratulations on earning this distinguished qualification, also an immense honour that comes with great responsibility. I wish you professional success, countless lives saved, and grateful patients who will value you for both your humanity and your professionalism”.

Deans of the faculties also addressed the graduates:

·        Professor Tinatin Tkemaladze, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine: “Congratulations. An engaging and challenging journey awaits you. Difficulties will arise, yet it is these challenges that shape one into a professional. Believe in yourselves, and you will attain your aspirations.”

·        Professor Nana Kipiani, Dean of the Faculty of Stomatology: “TSMU is a large family, and each of you is a member of it. I am confident you will represent the University with honour and integrity. I wish you success and many professional accomplishments.”

·        Professor Davit Zarnadze, Dean of the Faculty of Public Health: “We have endeavored to provide you with the knowledge you will require. Congratulations on today’s achievement, and may you always be valued wherever you go.”

·        Associate Professor Tamar Chikviladze, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy: “Thank you for the years we have shared. Thank you for choosing us. Do not stop; do not fear; never give up; and never lose your integrity. Strive to know yourself – this is your life.”

·        Professor Lela Maskhulia, Dean of the Faculty of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation: “You will often need to work in teams – act together, drawing on your professional skills. Over these years you have engaged in many projects. Thank you for your involvement and support.”

·        Assistant Professor Medea Jgharkava, Coordinator of the Bachelor’s Programmes in Nursing and Midwifery: “You are the essential link in ensuring the success of Georgia’s healthcare system. Remember, TSMU is your calling card. Forward to victories, to a future built upon tradition.”

A particularly exciting moment in the ceremony was the robbing of the highest-achieving graduates from each faculty. It is a symbolic gesture representing not only the acknowledgement of their academic success, but also the honor and responsibility inherent in their profession. The event concluded with the formal recitation of the oath, affirming commitment to future professional responsibilities, dedication, and adherence to ethical standards. This was followed by the traditional tossing of caps in the University yard, symbolically marking the graduates’ transition to a new stage of life.
