Delegation of Tbilisi State Medical University in Barcelona

On August 26-31, 2016, the Conference of European Association for Medical Education (AMEE) was held in Barcelona (Spain) where participated the delegation of Tbilisi State Medical University including Prof. Zurab Vadachkoria, Rector of TSMU, Prof. Rima Beriashvili Vice-Rector Prof. Gaiane Simonia Head of TSMU Department of Medical Education, Research and Strategic Development and Prof. Marine Mamaladze, Head of TSMU Department of Odontology.

At the Conference TSMU delegation presented a report - " The Impact of Faculty Development on Medical Teachers Perceptions: 5 years of Experience at Tbilisi State Medical University, Georgia” on the results of “training of trainers” courses in methodology of medical education held at TSMU Academic Development Center in 2012-2016.  The report deserved a great interest among the attendees.

During the conference, members of the delegation had very important meetings with European and American partners TSMU:  Prof. Trudie Roberts President of AMEE, Prof. Richard Fuller Professor of Leeds Institute of Medical Education, Prof.Olle Ten Cate Professor of Utrecht University Center of Academic Medicine and California University. At the meetings further cooperation strategies were discussed. TSMU Delegation took part in a very significant workshop on "Discussion of World Federation for Medical Education (WFME) recognition criteria for higher medical institutions” concerning to preparation for  international accreditation of higher medical institutions. The workshop was led by Prof. Dr. David Gordon President of WFME and the representatives of  the International Foundation for Medical Education and Research (FAIMER) –Dr. John Norcini and Dr. Marta Van Zanten. The meeting discussed a number of recommendations, which will be considered in preparation for international accreditation.
