Genetic Aspects of Down Syndrome – Public Lecture at TSMU

Professor Tinatin Tkemaladze, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Head of the Department of Molecular and Medical Genetics as part of the World Down Syndrome Day conducted a public lecture - Genetic Aspects of Down Syndrome at Tbilisi State Medical University.

Professor Tinatin Tkemaladze provided a comprehensive overview of diagnostic and screening tests for Down syndrome, as well as contemporary and innovative approaches in this field. Special emphasis was placed on Down syndrome management and medical supervision. She highlighted that properly implemented monitoring strategies and modern medical interventions significantly improve the quality of life for individuals with Down syndrome.

"Through proper medical supervision, many complications can be prevented, allowing individuals to lead a more fulfilling life, thereby enhancing their social integration and overall quality of life," stated Professor Tinatin Tkemaladze.

At the conclusion of the lecture, students were presented with a joint video clip, "Make Your Contribution," created by the Gigo Foundation and the social enterprise Babalé. The video conveyed an important message: by purchasing products made by the social enterprise, each individual can contribute to supporting people with Down syndrome.
