The First University Clinic Opens

 TSMU The first university clinic with 185 beds, equipped with modern laboratories and medical technologies for radiological diagnostics and high technology treatment, was opened in Tbilisi. The opening ceremony was attended by: Irakli Garibashvili,  Prime Minister of Georgia; David Sergeenko, Minister of Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia; Tamar Sanikidze, Minister of Education and Science of GeorgiaDavid Narmania, Mayor of Tbilisi; Prof. Zurab Vadachkoria,  Rector of TSMU, Zurab Orjonikidze, Chancellor of TSMU and other respectable guests. Irakli Garibashvili,  Prime Minister of  Georgia, together with other government  cabinet members, made a tour of the Clinic.

"This is the first university clinic in Georgia. As you know, over the past 9 years Tbilisi State Medical University underwent a serious loss - several clinical bases and infrastructural units were taken away. This project was implemented jointly by our government and the Medical University. Twenty million has already been invested. The project will cost 25 million in all, 20 million of which are used today. We have allocated the remaining 5 million from the state funds. This is very important project – 600 people will be employed at the clinic, which is very important, as the students and residents will be able to enrich theoretical knowledge with clinical practice" - said Irakli Garibashvili to the journalists.

The Prime Minister expressed his thankfulness to Prof. Zurab Vadachkoria, Rector of TSMU and everyone who has participated in the implementation of the project.

Tamar Sanikidze,  Minister of Education and Science of Georgia,  highly  praised opening of the  TSMU First  University  Clinic and said that the clinic will provide and maintain  development of students’ education, practical skills and clinical experience, so important in terms of future career and successful activities in the field of medicine.

According to David Sergeenko, Minister of Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia “More than 6.000 Georgian and 2.000 foreign students and residents will have the opportunity to practice their skills in the University Clinic. The University Clinic, where 600 people are employed, will be able to provide high-level medical services not only for the population of Tbilisi,  but  the whole Georgia as well”.   

After opening ceremony the second session of  the Research and Innovation Council was arranged at the first university clinic at the initiative and of the Prime Minister.

The session was opened by Prime Minister of Georgia, who underlined the importance of a successful implementation of the project – opening of the first university clinic - over again. The members of Academic Council discussed specific measures for development of science activities  including  the ways of detection  autonomy and status of TSMU scientific-research institutions. The session also focused on the plan, which allows the research institutions to be involved in the university activities in terms of development and implementation of doctoral programs.

The Research and Innovation Council, led by Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia, was created in accordance with a Government resolution. The Council united representatives of the executive and legislative branches of the Georgian Government, representatives of the business community and famous Georgian scientists.

At the end of the day, the representatives of TSMU administration and the First University Clinic hosted  numerous guests.
