A panel discussion on the topic “Bariatrics: A Multidisciplinary Approach” was organized at Tbilisi State Medical University. The meeting aimed to discuss contemporary approaches to bariatric surgery, current clinical practices, and multidisciplinary models of patient management.
The panel discussion featured the following speakers:
• Nino Charkviani – Associate Professor at the Department of Endocrinology, Tbilisi State Medical University;
• David Abuladze – General and Bariatric Surgeon, Academic Doctor of Medicine, Professor;
• Tamar Shervashidze – Nutritionist-Endocrinologist, Academic Doctor of Medicine, Assistant Professor;
• Mariam Grigorian – Cardiologist;
• Khatuna Tabagari – Therapist;
• Sopho Mataridze – Neurologist, Psychotherapist, Academic Doctor of Medicine.
The guests comprehensively reviewed the clinical indications for bariatric interventions, the importance of a multidisciplinary approach to patient management, traditional and innovative methods of bariatric surgery, as well as issues related to the postoperative period and long-term patient care.
The meeting was conducted in an interactive format, providing attendees with the opportunity to ask questions and receive detailed information regarding modern standards and practical aspects of bariatric treatment.
The event was organized by the Georgian Youth Health Association on May 22, 2026. It was attended by university students, academic staff and individuals interested in the topic.
