White Coat Ceremony at Tbilisi State Medical University

Since September 16, 2013 New US MD Program has started at Tbilisi State Medical University. The fully integrated curriculum was designed by the faculty of Emory University School of Medicine and Tbilisi State Medical University in keeping with the desired characteristics of both Institutions graduates. Study process in English language will make it easier for the students to pass two steps of United State Medical Licensing Examination – USMLE. Upon successful completion of the course students will be awarded the MD degree.

This year 27 students started the program.

On September 28, 2013 White Coat Ceremony was held for New US MD Program students in the Meeting Hall of the Administrative Building of Tbilisi State Medical University. Ceremonial comes from the tradition of United States Medical Schools. During the ceremonial medical students are dressed with white coats as symbol of new profession – becoming a doctor.

White Coat Ceremony was opened by Rector of Tbilisi State Medical University, Professor Zurab Vadachkoria. His Excellency, Ambassador of the United States, Mr. Richard Norland, Professor of Medicine at Emory University School of Medicine, Honorary Citizen of Georgia and Tbilisi, Professor Kenneth Walker, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Professor Tina Chikovani, Head of the Department of Overseas Students Education, Professor Giorgi Giorgobiani, Director of Research Programs of Emory University School of Medicine, Assistant Professor Archil Undilashvili, Full professor of ENT Department Tbilisi State Medical University, Academician of National Academy of  Sciences, Professor Shota Japaridze addressed the student and congratulated them.

   

Through the online broadcasting system, Professors of Emory University School of Medicine Prof. Mary Jo Lechowitz and Assistant Dean Medical Education and Student Affairs of Emory University School of Medicine, Professor Gordon Churchward congratulated the students.

   
     

After the welcome speeches, the honorable guests dressed all students of new US MD Program were dressed in white coats and gifted them the stethoscopes.
