On June 2, 2023 presentation of a book “Fundamentals of Ophthalmology” by Emeritus Merab Dvaliwas was organized at Tbilisi State Medical University. The book is recommended by the academic council of TSMU (03.11.22, protocol N24/2) and is designed for medical faculty students, residents and ophthalmologists. 

The presentation was interesting for the audience. The book appeared profound for the students and field professionals. Professor Zurab Vadachkoria Rector of TSMU evaluated the presentation day as a historic event for the medical society. 

“No book has been published for more than four decades in Georgia in Ophthalmology. Ophthalmology is a rapidly developing field and innovations are recommended to be recognized and made available for the field professionals and students. The experience and professionalism of the book author is extremely important. Professor Merab Dvali provided the book with rich illustrations and shared necessary and interesting information from his own experience” said Professor Zurab Vadachkoria, Rector of TSMU.  

The book was appraised by Mr. Vladimer Kakhadze, the First Deputy Chairperson of the Education and Science Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, Professor Irine Kvatchadze, Head of the TSMU Quality Assurance Department, the book editor and Doctor of Medicine Eter Mshvidobadze, the book reviewer, Professor Iva Beradze, the book editor and assistant of the head of the clinic “Akhali Mzera” Lika Zhorzhikashvili, Professor Zaza Bokhua, Director of TSMU Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Continuous Professional Development, colleagues from Baku: Professor Chingiz Yarulazadeh Head of the Ophthalmology Department of Azerbaijan Medical University and Ijran Namazov Deputy Director of the Azerbaijan Ophthalmology Institute.
