On February 28, 2024 Tbilisi State Medical University was visited by Prof. Ulrich Martin, Hannover Medical School and Gaby Froriep. PhD Program Coordinator of Hannover Medical School. The guests are the international experts of DAAD SDG funded project “Preparing Georgian students of medicine and biology for a scientific career in life sciences and medicine”.
Within the framework of the visit, a project coordination group meeting was organized. The parties discussed the main tasks, implementation plan and management mechanisms of the project. The guests were met by Professor Khatuna Todadze Vice-Rector of TSMU, Professor Tinatin Chikovani, Professor Tinatin Tkemaladze, Associate Professor Nona Janikashvili, Associate Professor Eka Kvaratskhelia, Associate Professor Tinatin Kilasonia, Head of the International Relations Department and representatives of Sukhumi State University Merab Chikobava and Marina Pochkhua. The guests were also hosted by Professor Irakli Natroshvili, Rector of TSMU. The parties discussed further cooperation activities in research and scientific projects.
The aim of the project is to include an elective course on the master’s level, to strengthen medical and pharmacy students’ research skills and reinforce their participation in research projects. The best candidates of the course are given the opportunity to participate in LISA summer academy in Hannover Medical School and after graduation from the medical university carry out a 6-month individual research project at TSMU.
The MD 8th semester students and master’s program in pharmacy 2nd semester students were given the opportunity to register on the elective course until February 28. The registered students had interviews with local and international experts. The international coordinators evaluated the TSMU applicants and emphasized their competitiveness with international students applying to doctoral programs at the Hannover Medical School.
The international guests visited the Departments of Immunology and Molecular and Medical Genetics of TSMU too within the framework of the visit.
