World Oral Health Day at TSMU

Professor Manana Iverieli, Head of the Department of Periodontology and Oral Mucosal Diseases of Tbilisi State Medical University delivered a public lecture "Everything (or Almost Everything) About Oral Mucosal Diseases, Their Connection to Pathologies of Individual Organs and Organ Systems, Specific Methods of Examination and Diagnosis, Differentiation and Treatment".

Oral diseases pose a significant challenge to overall health, causing not only pain and discomfort but also reducing quality of life, leading to social isolation and a decline in self-esteem. Importantly, most oral diseases are preventable, and early-stage treatment ensures long-term health preservation.

"Oral diseases represent a significant share of global morbidity. A healthy oral cavity is not limited to healthy teeth, it encompasses the well-being of all oral tissues and organs. Oral health is directly linked to the other systems of a body and can often be a precursor to or an aggravating factor in the development of various diseases," stated Professor Manana Iverieli.

The lecture at TSMU, along with the activities organized in relation to the World Oral Health Day aimed to raise awareness among students and the broader public about the importance of oral health, the role of proper oral hygiene practices, and the significance of early prevention.
