World Health Day is a global health awareness day celebrated every year on April 7 and as per tradition, Tbilisi State Medical University joins the global celebration. A series of events were organized at the university to mark this important date.

In collaboration with TSMU’s Student Self-Government and Health Space, a blood donation and screening campaign was conducted, which included testing for HIV, Hepatitis B and C, and syphilis. Rector of TSMU, representatives of the university administration, academic staff, and students participated in the event.

To raise awareness on health-related issues, the Department of the History of Medicine and the Department of Bioethics at TSMU organized an educational seminar. During the session, students presented reports on topics such as the history of the establishment of the World Health Organization (WHO), maternal and infant health, and the ethical aspects of surrogacy.

It has been 77 years since the establishment of the World Health Organization (WHO). Each year, on April 7, WHO highlights a new theme to emphasize the importance of physical and mental health, prevention, care, self-maintenance, and leading a healthy lifestyle. The theme for 2025 is: "A Healthy Start – A Hopeful Future."
