TSMU’s Iovel Kutateladze Institute of Pharmacochemistry Launches Production of New Georgian Bio-Herbal Oils

Tbilisi State Medical University Iovel Kutateladze Institute of Pharmacochemistry has officially launched the production of a new line of Georgian bio-herbal oils. At the opening ceremony, invited guests observed the production process of these medicinally beneficial bio-oils.

TSMU’s Institute of Pharmacochemistry is responsible for the entire production cycle—from cultivating medicinal plants to the cold-pressing of the oils. The process strictly adheres to international standards, including the implementation of the HACCP standard.

The event was opened by Professor Irakli Natrosvhili, Rector of TSMU. Additional remarks were delivered by Vasil Cheishvili, Operational Director of the Institute and Malkhaz Getia, Director of the Iovel Kutateladze Institute.

The presentation was attended by healthcare professionals, medical scientists, and media representatives.

"It is of great significance when a scientific institute of TSMU produces a product widely used both nationally and internationally. This is a clear example of practical scientific advancement. Even more importantly, the revenue generated from the sale of this product will be reinvested into scientific research—ensuring more resources for innovation and strengthening science in Georgia. As the Rector, my objective is to fully support the advancement of science. The oils produced by TSMU’s Institute are eco-friendly, high-quality, rich in vitamins, beneficial for health, and accessible to the public—making them truly unrivaled," stated Professor Irakli Natrosvhili.

"The plants are cultivated on lands owned by the Institute and undergo testing in our in-house laboratories. At this stage, we are producing three types of oils: chia, flaxseed, and black cumin, but we plan to expand production to include nine types. One notable addition will be amaranth, known for its extraordinary properties. Each type of oil offers specific health benefits such as strengthening the immune system, regulating metabolic processes, controlling blood sugar and cholesterol levels, detoxifying the body, and more," said Vasil Cheishvili, Operational Director of the Institute.

"The idea emerged when I needed such a product and found that there was no Georgian producer on the market. Today, we can confidently say that we have no direct competitors. A major advantage is that the product is manufactured under the name of a medical university, which lends it greater trust and credibility. With full adherence to standards and the implementation of HACCP, we produce cold-pressed oils using unique equipment. This is critical, as oils lose their therapeutic properties when exposed to heat," noted Zakaria Svimonishvili, founder of the company Khakibos, during his remarks to attendees.

These ecologically pure medicinal oils will soon become available to the general public, including through pharmacy networks. The TSMU Iovel Kutateladze Institute of Pharmacochemistry also plans to further diversify its assortment of therapeutic oils.
