Global Medical Lab Week at Tbilisi State Medical University

Global Medical Lab Week is an annual celebration of medical laboratory professionals and pathologists who play a vital role in health care and patient advocacy. Tbilisi State Medical University also joined the global campaign and marked the last week of April as Lab Week with the theme of the year “Labs Save Lives”. 

On April 26, 2025, Tbilisi State Medical University hosted a series of diverse and creative events to mark the occasion, with the participation of laboratory medicine professionals from across the country. The event was officially opened by Nino Abesadze, Head of the Lab at Mardaleishvili Medical Center and Professor Nino Gogokhia, Coordinator of State Programs at the Lugar Laboratory of the National Center for Disease Control and Head of the Department of Laboratory Medicine at Tbilisi State Medical University.

The professional community in Georgia received congratulatory messages from Professor Tomáš Zima, President of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (IFCC), and Mario Plebani, President of the European Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine (EFLM). Both of them attended the event online.

In recognition of their significant contributions to the development of laboratory medicine in Georgia, the organizers presented honorary gifts to Professor Ala (Aka) Zedgenidze and Professor Nina Bukia, Emeritus of Tbilisi State Medical University. Within the framework of the event, an exhibition and handmade works created by professionals in the field was organized.
