On May 5-8, 2024 Tbilisi hosted the 14th National Congress on Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology. The event was organized by Tbilisi State Medical University in collaboration with the Georgian Association of Allergology and Clinical Immunology (GAACI). Within the framework of the congress the 10th European Congress on Asthma and COPD and the 4th International Congress “Coronavirus Infection (COVID-19): Prevention, Diagnosis, Treatment, and Rehabilitation” also took place.
The Congress was conducted in two stages: the first part (May 5–6) was held at the Radisson Hotel, while the second part (May 7–8) convened at Tbilisi State Medical University.
The field scientists and professionals discussed innovative approaches to the prevention and treatment of allergies, asthma, COPD and coronavirus infections during the four-day event.
The Congress welcomed leading experts from various countries, including representatives of the International Union of Immunological Societies (IUIS), the World Allergy Organization (WAO), the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (EAACI), the World Association of Immunopathology (WIPO), the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology (ACAAI), the European Federation of Immunological Societies (EFIS) and other international organizations.
The Congress featured a diverse range of academic activities, including plenary sessions, symposia, young scientists' symposia, workshops, and specialized training schools. A significant portion of the program was dedicated to joint sessions organized by GAACI, the World Allergy Organization and the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology.
International experts presented the latest advances in fundamental research in allergology and immunology, contemporary approaches to the clinical management of immunopathological diseases and ongoing challenges in scientific practice. The Congress was attended by physicians, students and young researchers who gained insights into achievements from the United States, Europe and beyond.
The second part of the Congress, held at Tbilisi State Medical University, included lectures and discussions within the framework of an international training school. Scientists from the University of Michigan (USA), Estonia, and Germany presented their research findings, met with students and early-career researchers and shared recent advancements from leading universities and research institutions around the world. Another key component of the program was dedicated to student presentations on immune health.
The Congress was supported by the World Allergy Organization, the European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, the World Association of Immunopathology, the International Union of Immunological Societies, the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, and the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology.
Held annually in Tbilisi, the Congress coincides with the global observance of International Days of Immunology and World Asthma Week.
