The visit of the Tbilisi State Medical University delegation to China was led by Professor Irakli Natroshvili, Rector of TSMU concluded with the signing of two important cooperation documents:
1. An agreement between Tbilisi State Medical University and Xi’an Medical University;
2. A cooperation contract between the TSMU First University Clinic and the Sixth Affiliated University Clinic of Xinjiang Medical University.
The TSMU delegation included: Professor Irakli Natroshvili, Rector of TSMU; Professor Levan Ratiani, General Director of the TSMU First University Clinic; Associate Professor Nino Tskhvediani, Executive Director of the G. Zhvania Pediatric University Clinic; Romeo Vardiashvili, Head of Orthopedics and Traumatology at the G. Zhvania Pediatric University Clinic; Kakhaber Bukia, Head of Traumatology and Orthopedics at the TSMU First University Clinic; Davit Barliani, Head of the Outpatient Department at the TSMU First University Clinic, General Surgeon and Oncologist; Aleksandre Kordzadze, Neurosurgeon at the TSMU First University Clinic and Master of Biological Sciences; and Ramaz Kalandadze, Anesthesiologist-Resuscitator at the TSMU First University Clinic.
According to the agreement signed between Tbilisi State Medical University and Xi’an Medical University, the parties agreed to strengthen their cooperation, work on the development of a memorandum and its detailed provisions and explore opportunities for launching exchange programs for both students and academic staff. Prior to signing the document, the parties exchanged information about their universities, academic programs, teaching methodologies, institutional experience, and future development plans.
In addition to signing the agreement between the universities in Xi’an, members of the TSMU delegation held meetings at the Xi’an Red Cross Hospital. Following the meeting, the delegation was divided into two groups: one group visited the departments of orthopedics and spine surgery, while the other toured the departments of anesthesiology, intensive care, neurosurgery, and laboratories. The delegation members familiarized themselves with the hospital’s clinical practices and exchanged professional experience with their Chinese colleagues.
The TSMU delegation visited Xi’an Children’s Hospital, where they were introduced to the hospital’s operational and clinical practices. Managers and physicians of the hospital held meetings with the delegation members, during which the parties discussed prospects for future cooperation.
Within the framework of the visit to China, the second cooperation document was signed in Urumqi between the TSMU First University Clinic and the Sixth Affiliated University Clinic of Xinjiang Medical University. The agreement envisages future partnership in the fields of theoretical and practical knowledge exchange, as well as scientific and research collaboration.
After the signing ceremony, members of the TSMU delegation toured the Sixth Affiliated University Clinic of Xinjiang Medical University, visiting the departments of orthopedic oncology and spine surgery, as well as the Orthopedic Research Center. The delegation became acquainted with the clinic’s operational specifics, patient care approaches, advanced technologies, and notable medical cases. The delegation also visited Xinjiang Medical University, including its Pain Management Center, Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the Department of Physical Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine.
The TSMU delegation’s visit to China took place from May 16 to May 23, 2026. This marks the second occasion on which Chinese universities and medical institutions have hosted representatives of TSMU with the aim of strengthening future cooperation. Both visits were organized by the Europe-Asia Spine and Pain Association (EASPA).
The visit of the TSMU delegation to China was carried out within the framework of the “One Belt, One Road” initiative, which aims to deepen cooperation between Georgia and China in various fields, including healthcare.
