Tbilisi State Medical University (TSMU) traditionally participated in the Regional Science Festival 2026, held on October 12, in Akhaltsikhe with the support of the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia and organized by Samtskhe-Javakheti State University.
As part of the festival, an open-air “Science City” was set up at Rabati Castle, where various higher education institutions, partner organizations, schools, and private-sector representatives presented their scientific, educational and innovative projects.
TSMU offered visitors a diverse programme of educational and hands-on activities.
Participants had the opportunity to examine plant tissues and crystals under a microscope, view herbarium specimens, observe chemical reactions demonstrated using colored reagents and learn about the separation of substances using a chromatography column. Visitors to the TSMU pavilion could also observe and try their hand at capsule making and gel preparation, as well as explore flame-coloration reactions.
Participants were also introduced to first-aid techniques for traumatic injuries, including bleeding control, tourniquet application, bandaging, and immobilization. In addition, they learned how to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), practice techniques for removing foreign bodies from the airways of adults and children, and measure blood pressure and pulse using a medical training mannequin.
An interactive quiz was also scheduled throughout the day, with TSMU-branded gifts awarded to the winners.
The TSMU exhibition area was visited by Zviad Gabisonia, Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia. Zviad Gabisonia also presented awards to professors, academic staff, and researchers of Samtskhe-Javakheti State University.
At the closing of the event, Vakhtang Taktaqidze, Rector of Samtskhe-Javakheti State University, presented certificates of appreciation to TSMU and the other institutions participating in the festival.
