The Structure and Content of Medical Doctor Program (Short description)

      Introduction – The Tbilisi State Medical University has been offering the "Advisor in Rehabilitation" master's program since 2010. Rehabilitation is an investment in human capital that contributes to health, economic, and social development. Rehabilitation plays a crucial role in the successful implementation of the global strategy and action plan. The World Health Organization has identified several barriers to the strengthening and expansion of rehabilitation services in countries. These include: government prioritizing other issues over rehabilitation, lack of rehabilitation policies, limited coordination between healthcare and social protection, inadequate funding, lack of evidence-based rehabilitation needs, shortage of professionals, and insufficient integration in health systems.

 

Structure and content of the educational program

 

     The educational program consists of training courses. Their content, volume and teaching methods ensure the achievement of the program's goal and the competencies that correspond to the second level (master's) education stage of the higher education qualifications framework. The training courses are structured within the framework of the Law on Higher Education and other norms subordinate to it. Teaching methods correspond to modern methodological and specific requirements of physical medicine and rehabilitation master's training. The educational program is built according to the European credit-transfer system, includes 120 ECTS credits (one credit corresponds to 30 hours, 12 contact hours, 18 hours of independent work). The duration of the program is two years (4 semesters).

The student's workload, contact hours and hours for independent work are reflected in the credit system.

Aims of the Educational Program

The goal of the master's program "Advisor in Rehabilitation" is to: the goals of the program are in line with the goals and mission of TSSU and in accordance with the needs of the country/health protection, to train a qualified specialist in physical medicine and rehabilitation who will be able to:

-  managing the rehabilitation process;

-  Improvement of rehabilitation service activities and effective use of resources;

-  Assessment of medical, functional and environmental aspects of disability.

Successful completion of the educational program ensures the validity of the graduates' knowledge and their competitiveness in the employment market (within the scope of competence), readiness for doctoral education and continuous professional development.

Requirements/Prerequisit es to the Program

   The prerequisite for admission to the program is at least a bachelor's degree or an academic degree equivalent to a master's degree.

 

    Citizens of Georgia will be admitted to the master's program "Rehabilitation Counselor" on the basis of successful passing of the unified national master's exam (in case of exceeding the minimum competence limit as established by the legislation of Georgia) and positive results of university exams (in the specialty - and test in a foreign language), and foreign citizens - to the Georgian Education, Science, as defined by the Ministry of Culture and Sports.

 

     Intra-university examination subjects and conditions are determined by the level of knowledge necessary to start studying the given program. The above may be changed in accordance with the strategy for improving the quality of the program's results and will be published annually, according to the established rules. Enrollment in the master's program is carried out in case of exceeding the minimum competence limit established by the university, taking into account the number of competitive places and the number of participants in the competition.

     The internal university exam is held at the exam center. Information about exams for those who want to study on the exam program - exam issues, literature, sample tests are posted on the university's website and are available to all applicants. Also, they have the opportunity to regularly receive information about the format of the exam, as well as to consult with the relevant services of TSMU, the head of the program, the center of foreign languages.

     Admission to the master's program is based on mobility in accordance with Georgian legislation and TSMU regulations. The conditions of admission to the program and other relevant information related to admission are posted annually on the website of the National Center for Assessment and Examinations, the reference book and the website of the TSMU.

Learning Outcomes

     The program's learning outcomes consider the interests of all parties involved in the academic process, including MA students, academic staff, graduates, and potential employers, as well as national and international industry standards.

  The learning outcomes of the program align with the seventh level of qualifications described in the National Qualifications Framework

Knowledge and understanding:

     Has a deep and systematic knowledge in physical medicine and rehabilitation, a critical understanding of the multidisciplinary approach, through which he realizes the latest achievements in the field and promotes the development of new ideas by introducing innovations. Has knowledge of disability and accessibility services, case management. Realizes: the essence and importance of multidisciplinary research in physical medicine and rehabilitation; Applying research and theory to practice; to see/use the strategic directions and opportunities of physical medicine and rehabilitation; Assessing/identifying needs, advocating for the improvement of individual/community health and well-being.

Skill:

Searching for new, original ways to solve complex problems in an unfamiliar or multidisciplinary environment and carrying out research independently, adhering to the principles of academic integrity, using the latest methods and approaches

Critical analysis of complex or incomplete information (including recent research), innovative synthesis of information, evaluation and formulation of conclusions that reflect social and ethical responsibilities. Presenting one's own conclusions, arguments and research results to both the academic and professional community in compliance with academic ethics standards. Participation in the discussion at a professional level and information is used rationally; effective cooperation in work, study or professional environment; Is cussing problematic issues related to the subject with specialists, presenting one's views at a professional level;

-  Ability to follow current changes and scientific innovations in physical medicine and rehabilitation and to constantly update knowledge;

-  Professional evaluation, professional counseling, professional rehabilitation and promotion of employment.

 

Areas of Employment

Enrollment in the master's degree, the status of the master's student is determined by the statute of the master's degree. The fields of employment of the graduates of the educational program are: all types of medical institutions, all levels of healthcare management and policy-making organizations. All types of treatment-prophylactic institutions, health centers, structures of different levels of health care management. Wellness centers, climate treatment and rehabilitation centers and institutions.
