1. This rule governs the affiliation of the scientific staff of the Tbilisi State Medical University (from now TSMU) research units. It establishes the rights and responsibilities of the scientific staff and independent scientific research units about their affiliation.

2. Affiliation, as defined in this rule, refers to a written agreement (affiliation agreement) between independent scientific research units and a person holding the scientific staff position. This agreement specifies that each person holding the position of scientific staff will determine their affiliation solely with independent scientific research units of TSMU and participate in the society on their behalf, contributing to the development and sharing of knowledge:

2.1 Conducts fundamental research and scientific activities at independent scientific research units. The results of their research are taken into consideration by the unit. 

2.2 Participates in decision-making processes concerning scientific research and other significant issues in independent scientific research units.

3. To apply for a scientific position at the university, applicants must declare their willingness to affiliate with the respective unit in advance. If selected for the position, the applicant must confirm their affiliation by signing a contract and filling out the appropriate consent form (Appendix 1).

4. If a person is in a scientific position affiliated with another scientific research unit, their employment contract with the university will be terminated, and they will have to leave the scientific position.

5. The academic staff affiliated with another higher educational institution, as academic staff, is required to follow the terms of the employment contract concluded with the independent scientific research unit of TSMU. They must also consider the results of scientific research work in this unit in relation to the independent scientific research unit of TSMU.

6. This rule will come into effect upon approval.

Appendix 1 

Affiliation Agreement

The following is an agreement between The Institute of Medical Biotechnology named after Vladimir Bakhutashvili of Tbilisi State Medical University (referred to as the "employer"), represented by Professor .............................. as the Director, and an employee …………………………..(referred to as the "employee"). The agreement states the terms of their contract.

"To become an affiliated employee of the Vladimir Bakhutashvili Institute of Medical Biotechnology at Tbilisi State Medical University, expected to participate in community development and knowledge sharing on behalf of the institute:

a) this includes conducting basic scientific research activities and ensuring that the results of your research are considered by the Vladimir Bakhutashvili Institute of Medical Biotechnology at Tbilisi State Medical University.

b) to be actively involved in the decision-making processes of the Institute regarding research and other important issues; 

c) to be actively involved in counseling and academic/scientific guidance for students. 

3. In case of failure to fulfill this agreement or improper fulfillment, the employee must vacate the scientific position.
