Internationalization policy

The policy of internationalization of Tbilisi State Medical University – one of the main strategies – is a complex process that, in recent years, under globalization, has acquired more significance in terms of competitiveness and high education quality improvement. TSMU internationalization implies the global-scale development of international relations, collaboration, and cooperation, with the purpose - of high education to comply with the requirements and challenges of society, economics, and labor market globalization. TSMU implements the provisions of the Bologna process, which ensures the compliance and harmonization of university academic and professional standards with those of the European ones.

The main directions of TSMU internationalization are:

1) TSMU international recognition and increase in attractiveness
 promotion of TSMU representatives in the directory of World Medical School and its high rating,
 Membership in various international organizations and associations and active engagement in events organized by them.
2) Internationalization of academic programs
 competent and innovative approach to the curriculum design,
 introduce modern methods of assessment of teaching and knowledge,
 use of modern information and communication technologies in learning and teaching processes,
 elaboration and realization of unified programs
3) Attraction of international students
 involvement in the foreign students support program ‘Study in Georgia’
 participation in international educational markets,
 cooperation with international attracting companies,
 communication with individual applicants.
4) Research internationalization
 internationalization of science, technologies, and innovations
 participation in international framework programs, including the program ‘Horizon 2020’ and effort to attract funds,
 participation of medical personnel in international scientific grants,
 promoting broadcasting, inter-sectorial, inter-disciplinary, and inter-institutional surveys,
 identification of strong scientific field clusters and promotion of the establishment of relations with scientists/scientific centers famous abroad,
 elaboration of the new science festival program and integration with international science festivals.
5) International mobility – exchange programs for students and academic personnel
 ERASMUS+,
 exchange programs based on bilateral cooperation agreements with partner universities and clinics.
6) Invitation of foreign professors for the realization of academic and medical activities (including charity) in Georgia.
7) Participation in different professional activities – continuous training of health care professionals
 distance learning and telemedicine use.
8) International cooperation with TSMU alumni
 creation of a database of alums,
 verification of documentation – diplomas and diploma annexes.
