Tbilisi State Medical University Delegation in Rome, Italy

On June 3 – 8, 2013 in the frames of Tempus Project MUMEENA-Modernising Medical Education in the Eastern Neighbouring Area” the workshop ”Innovations in Public Health Teaching” and the project coordinators’ work meeting were held in Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Rome, Italy. The invited delegation of Tbilisi State Medical University included: Rector of Tbilisi State Medical University, Prof. Zurab Vadachkoria, Deputy Rector, Prof. Rima Beriashvili, National Coordinator of the Project, Head of the Department of Medical Education, Research and Strategic Development, Prof. Gaiane Simonia and Head of the Direction of Healthcare Management, Policy and Economics of Public Health Department, Prof. Levan Baramidze.

Besides Tbilisi State Medical University delegation the meeting was attended by delegations of partner universities - University of Leeds (United Kingdom), Iv. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (Georgia), Baku Medical University and Nakhchivan State University (Azerbaijan), Kiev National Medical University and Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University (Ukraine).

The workshop was opened by Project Coordinator, Director of Leeds Institute of Medical Education, Professor Trudie Roberts. Public Health current issues were discussed; the delegation members of Tbilisi State Medical University were actively involved in discussions. Professor Levan Baramidze reviewed methods of Public Health teaching at Tbilisi State Medical University. At the end of the meeting the participants emphasized the importance of the analysis of results of genome assessment in the Public Health curriculum.
