Tbilisi State Medical University participating in European Medical Education Forum

On August 24 -28, 2013 the Conference dedicated to forty years of an International Association for Medical Education was held in Prague, Czech Republic, where Tbilisi State Medical University Delegation participated in. The delegation included Rector of Tbilisi State Medical University, Professor Zurab Vadachkoria, Deputy Rector, Professor Rima Beriashvili and Head of Medical Education, Research and Strategic Development Department of TSMU, Prof. Gaiane Simonia.     

On the conference two presentations were made by members of TSMU delegation.

The first presentation was “How can Kotter’s (1995) model of organizational change support faculty development in Eastern Europe? The Georgian Experience”. The presentation was made in the partnership with Professor Anne-Marie Reid, from the partner university in TEMPUS Project MUMEENA - University of Leeds (UK). It was presented on the Session “Accreditation and Change”, which Chairperson was Dan Hunt (USA). In the presentation, the implemented innovations at Tbilisi State Medical University - Case-Based Clinical Reasoning course and Academic Development Center were highlighted.

The second presentation- “Introducing case-based clinical reasoning (CBCR) course at the Tbilisi State Medical University” was made on the session “Clinical Reasoning”.  It was about case-based clinical reasoning (CBCR) course implemented in the Department of Propedeutics of Internal Medicine at Tbilisi State Medical University.

   

Both presentations aroused big interest of the audience. Experts positively evaluated ongoing changes of educational development at Tbilisi State Medical University.

The Members of Tbilisi State Medical University Delegation participated in the coordination meeting of TEMPUS Project MUMEENA, where the perspectives of the project continuation were discussed.

On the conference, Director of Medical Education Institution of University of Leeds, Professor Trudie Roberts was elected as the President of an International Association for Medical Education. Rector Zurab Vadachkoria gifted him, as a recently elected president, Georgian national epic poem “The Knight in the Panther's Skin” by Shota Rustaveli.
