International Students’ Day

On November 11 – 17, 2013 Student Government of Tbilisi State Medical University organized the event devoted to International Students’ Day.

International Students’ Day was established in 1946 on students’ international congress in Prague and it is annually commemorated on November 17.

For the first time in Georgia International Students’ Day was celebrated by Student Government of Tbilisi State Medical University in 2009 and since then it was established as tradition.

During the whole week related to International Students’ Day lots of sports and recreational activities were held at Tbilisi State Medical University.

November 11 – The week was opened by Students Theatrical Performance. Traditional ancestral war dance – Haka and some fighting elements were performed by Georgian Wushu Federation.

Student’s paintings exhibition shop was held in the 1st academic building of TSMU, where students of the Faculty of Medicine Giorgi Changalishvili and Anano Abashidze participated in.

Volleyball competition was held in the 3rd academic building, where 5 teams of TSMU “Martvili”, “Rehabilitation”, “Tsenturioni”, “Heath Care” and “Akromioani” participated in. Team “Tsenturioni” became a winner.

   

November 12 – The arm wrestling competition was held and the winners were nominated in different weight classes.

In Red Hall of the 3rd Academic Building the concert was held for the first year international students of TSMU. Deputy Rector of TSMU, Professor Rima Beriashvili, Head of Department of Overseas Student Education, Professor Giorgi Giorgobiani and Vice-President of Student Government, Kshitij Kumar.

The participants of the concert were: TSMU National Dance and Song Ensemble, Modern Dance Ensemble “Vega, international students from India, Sri Lanka, Surinam, Turkey, Iran, Trinidad and Tobago, Russia and Nigeria.

   

November 13 – Free Blood Donation was organized by Tbilisi State Medical University Student Government and NGO “Donor Club” under the title “Donate the Blood, Save the Life”. Tbilisi State Medical University 45 students participated in the free Blood Donation. The blood was given to Georgian Central Blood Bank.

     

At the same day, Basketball competition was held in sport hall. Ten team participated in the competition.

Student Government and "ISN Tbilisi" made the presentation of the Language Club, which goal is to held international TSMU students to learn Georgian language.

   

November 14 – The conference about the theme - "Diabetes in Pregnancy" was organized by Student Government and Georgian Pharmaceutical Student's Association, where Professor of the Course of Endocrinology of Internal Medicine Department, Davit Metreveli made the presentation.

The event was attended by Deputy Rector, Giorgi Abesadze, representatives of Georgian Pharmaceutical Student's Association and TMSU students.

At the same day competitions in Chess, Backgammon and Tennis-table were held.

November 15 – There was Students’ Concert held, where Modern Dance Ensemble “Vega”, Classical Music Band, Traditional Music Girls’ Ensemble “Deka”, National Instrumental Ensemble, Girl and Boy Choirs, the Group of Smarts and Funnies “Cosa Nostra”, Singer – Tereza Pukhashvili and TSMU international students participated in.

The concert was attended by Rector of Tbilisi State Medical University, Professor Zurab Vadachkoria, Vice-Rector, Professor Kakhaber Chelidze, Deputy Head of Youth Affairs Department of Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs of Georgia, Vakhtang Asanidze, TSMU Academic and Administrative Staff and Students.

November 16 - In the Reading Hall of the Library Intellectual Game “What? Where? When?” was arranged, where 20 teams were participating. The winner of the game became the team “Logosi”.

November 17 – The final activity of the week was the theatrical performance, organized by Head of Drama Theatre “Hygia”, Natia Gujabidze. During the performance students made the symbolic chain of unity by holding hands and launched the sky lanterns.
