On December 13, 2013 President of Italian Society of Surgery, Professor GianluigiMelotti paid an official visit to Tbilisi State Medical University.

The meeting with Professor GianluigiMelotti was attended by Rector of Tbilisi State Medical University, Professor ZurabVadachkoria, Deputy Rector, Professor Rima Beriashvili, Chancellor ZurabOrjonikidze, Head of the Course of Surgery of Department of Surgery N1, Professor GiaTomadze, Head of International Relations Department, Professor IaAvaliani and Deputy Head Irina Kapetivadze. 

Professor GianluigiMelotti visited to Georgia in 1966 and since after he has visited almost once in a year. He collaborates with Georgian doctors and participates in charity events. He greatly contributed to publishing of the first Georgian original work - the Book “Laparoscopic Surgery”. Professor GianluigiMelotti is an honorary member of Georgian National Academy of Sciences.

On the meeting in Tbilisi State Medical University, they discussed the collaboration issues related to the annual congress of Mediterranean and Middle Eastern Endoscopic Surgery Association (MMESA), which will be held in Georgia in 2014. Tbilisi State Medical University will host the event. Professor GianluigiMelottivisited the TMSU conference halls and technical facilities, which will be used to hold the congress in TSMU. 

To hold the mentioned congress will develop the participants’ knowledge and share their experiences. In the frames of the congress professors from the world’s leading clinics will deliver the lectures for TSMU students and medical residents about new technologies and current views in Surgery.
