German Professors visited to Tbilisi State Medical University

On December 18, 2013 Delegation from Germany visited to Tbilisi State Medical University. The delegation was consisted of Member of Koch-Metschnikow Forum, President of Russian Medical Scientific Academy, Professor Helmut Hahn, Medical Technology Manager of Koch-Metschnikow Forum, Jörg Peter Ströbel, Head of Akkon University Quality Assurance Program, Professor Timo Ulrichs, Founder of „J.Pröpster GmbH“ company, Philanthropist, Dr. Johann Pröpster, Microbiologist, Dr. Marlis Hok and Journalist Mr. Foirleine.

The meeting was attended by Rector of Tbilisi State Medical University, Professor Zurab Vadachkoria, Deputy Rector, Professor Rima Beriashvili, Head of International Relations Department, Professor Ia Avaliani, Deputy Head Irina Kapetivade and Head of the Foreign Language Centre, Professor Manana Kutelia.

In the frames of the meeting the both sides discussed the future collaboration plans.

On December 18 by the decision of the Academic Board of Tbilisi State Medical University the following professors were awarded by the degree of Honorary Doctor (Doctor Honoris Causa):

  • Professor Helmut Hahn (Germany) – Emeritus professor of Microbiology Department of the Faculty of Medicine of Berlin University, Koch-Mechnikov-Forum founder. The contract has been signed between Tbilisi State Medical University and Koch-Mechnikov-Forum by his initiative. Professor Hahn has delivered the lectures in TSMU. The congresses, conferences and symposia were held under his guidance about TB, microbiology and health care issues. Professor Hahn supports exchange programs for students and young scientists in collaboration with Koch-Mechnikov-Forum.
  • Professor Timo Ulrichs (Germany) - Koch-Mechnikov-Forum founder. He has been working in Georgia since 2003 about TB and organizing partner projects. Professor Ulrichs has been cooperating with Tbilisi State Medical University since 2009. In 2010-2013 he won the grant to deliver the lectures at TSMU. In 2013 the contract was signed between TSMU and Akkon University to plan scientific and student exchange programs.
  • Dr. Johann Pröpster (Germany) – He is known for his charity contributions. He financially supports Tbilisi State Medical University and its students to study in Germany.
  • Dr. Irma Kvitsaridze (Austria) - Chief Doctor of Radiology Department of Innsbruck Medical University Clinic. She actively participates in the new initiatives between TSMU and Innsbruck Medical University about establishing joint nursing school at TSMU and postgraduate education for TSMU alumni in Austrian clinics.

It should be mentioned that German colleagues were awarded by TSMU Honorary Doctorate Degree on the tenth anniversary of Koch-Metschnikow Forum foundation. They said special thanks to Tbilisi State Medical University administration.

The invited guests visited to Tbilisi State Medical University Clinical Skills Center and Laboratory, which is equipped with the latest educational medical technologies.

At the end of the visit, German guests attended the concerts, where the groups of TMSU Sport and Art Center were participating. That concert was devoted to Tbilisi State Medical University alumni class 1953.
