It was obvious, and the "Open Day" showed once again that the Tbilisi State Medical University has a stainless reputation in the community. Its history, approximately 100 year of age, began in 1918 with the establishment of Tbilisi State University (at present –I. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University).  Despite that the Medical Institute (since 1994 -Medical University) separated from the university in 1930 the intellectual base had been established in 1918, then continuing its teaching activity as the Institute of Medicine.

It should be also emphasized that the necessity of separation of the Medical Faculty from the University has been put on the agenda in European countries. It became clear that specific and comprehensive education the students get in the medical disciplines will be really provided only by specific medical university. Prof. Zurab vadachkoria introduced to students all prospects and nuances of teaching process at the university in details.

The entrants became interested in significant statement stipulating participation of Tbilisi State medical University in working groups of European Association for Medical Education (AMEE) and MEDINE for development of medical educational standards and normative documents together with 39 Universities from European Union covering area.

In 2012 – 2013, within the frames of this program more than 200 leading foreign Professors from the Universities of  EU countries, Great Britain, Turkey and Israel visited Tbilisi State medical University to deliver lectures.  TSMU collaborates with more than 100 Universities from over 40 countries.  Every year more than 300 students and residents of TSMU are passing internship training programs there. Applicants were particularly interested in the American program of certified doctors. According to Prof. George Giorgobiani, Head of Department of Overseas Students Education, this is indeed a great opportunity in terms of future career prospects, because this program provides modern, internationally recognized standards of medical education. Excellent students will be able to pass certain stages of scientific research and practical activities at Emory University (Atlanta, USA).

Teaching in English and program structure will facilitate passing gradually two steps of so-called Medical Licensing Examination (United State Medical Licensing Examination - USMLE) for Georgian citizens during the study process at TSMU. TSMU first year students at American program of certified doctors were also attending the open day, recommending their training program as one of the most interesting and effective one with wearing appropriate symbolic blue shirts. Resonant was Georgian - French program as well. Since 2012, French Bachelor Program developed together with “UniMan” Academy of Management and Performance and the University of Grenoble is functioning at TSMU Faculty of Public Health. After completion of the program, together with Georgian diploma will be awarded French diploma as well. This program focused on the European space is training program offering a special opportunity to the applicants. The Open Day was ended by question – answer session. As the majority of attendees said the detailed information they got persuaded them to choose Tbilisi State Medical University as it's really the best and the only decision. The modern teaching opportunities offered by TSMU Center of Clinical Skills in terms of simulations  or objective structured clinical examination (OSCE ), indicate that the University meets the modern requirements of education sharing experiences of developed European countries. Therefore, have been introduced new methods, permanent research activities, and most importantly, teaching of clinical thinking. According to Prof. Zurab Vadachkoria, Rector of Tbilisi State Medical University, the University is doing its best to ensure formation of professionals’ generation and to encourage their development and refinement. Tbilisi State Medical University is trying to offer the best to every student; moreover, there is a preparatory center for applicants, the experience of which will ensure good results at  unified national exams, of course, after passing appropriate classes.

TSMU is the main participant of TEMPUS (MUMEENA- Modernizing Medical Education in the Eastern Neighboring Area) project. This increases the chance that its graduates will have gained a comprehensive experience and practice in European countries. And as you know the experience is a power. As one of the entrants stated, that main motivation was that almost all great physicians he met in his life were the graduates of TSMU.
