Rewarding, in the Field of Medicine and Health Care within the German-Georgian Cooperation

On 18 February 2013, Professor Hans Helmut, Dr. Johann Profster and Professor Timo Ulrich were  awarded the title of Honorary Doctors of Tbilisi State Medical University. Thus, the university paid tribute to Koch-Metschnikow-Forum for contribution in development of Germany - Georgian relations in the field of biomedicine and  health care. Since 2009, there is an intense relationship between Tbilisi State Medical University and Koch-Metschnikow Forum. During this period, bilateral projects on TB control and research were implemented, led by invited Professor Timo Ulrich. Within the framework of  scholarship provided by German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) , the collaboration included the following areas:

  • Lectures, seminars and other training  activities at Tbilisi State Medical University;
  • Scientific cooperation in the field of tuberculosis;
  • Exchange program for the students of the Faculties of Medicine and Health Care with partner universities of Berlin (Teaching of German language is a matter of special interest at Tbilisi State Medical University. From our side the program is headed by Professor Manana Kutelia, Director of TSMU Center of Foreign Languages);
  •  Participation in the reform of medical curriculum of Tbilisi State Medical University, in terms of the final integration in the Bologna process;
  • Establish a partnership with Tbilisi State Medical University and ACORN Community High School to develop joint Master's program in Public Health.

Professor Hans Helmut, was awarded the honorary title as Koch - Mechnikov Forum president, businessman but Dr. Johann Profster for his contribution and  generous sponsorship in order to support clinical and educational activities at Tbilisi State Medical University.
