Delegation of Tbilisi State Medical University in the UK

On March 2-7, 2014, Prof. Rima Beriashvili Vice- Rector of Tbilisi State Medical University, Professor Gaiane Simonia, Head of TSMU Department of Medical Education, Research and Strategic Development and  Professor Marina Mamaladze  TSMU Department of Odontology at the Faculty of Stomatology were on  working visit to Leeds University, the UK. The purpose of the visit was to attend training of the objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) experts and planning future joint projects together with the Institute of Medical Education,  Leeds University. The visit was very productive: TSMU delegation actively participated in the trainings of OSCE experts and discussions followed. After the training, they were given a certificate, entitling them to conduct training in methodology of medical education as the experts, not only in Georgia but abroad as well.

Professor Marina Mamaladze met with academic staff of the Department of Dentistry at the University of Leeds; they shared their experiences in the teaching of dentistry and discussed the prospects of farther cooperation. TSMU delegation members and the colleagues from the University of Leeds discussed the main issues of upcoming joint project; This project is considered as  continuation of MUMEENA (TEMPUS) project. In the discussions participated Prof. Trude Roberts, coordinator of MUMEENA (TEMPUS) project, President of Association for Medical Education in Europe.

The visit coincided with inauguration of Professor Paul Stewart, newly elected dean of the School of Medicine at University of Leeds. The delegation members attended the inaugural lecture, and congratulated him on his election on such a honorary position. The new dean expressed a strong desire to cooperate with Tbilisi State Medical University.
