OSCE in Obstetrics and Gynecology

On July 22-23, 2014, Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) was held in Obstetrics and Gynecology at TSMU Center of Clinical Skills for  IV year students of 22 - 41  groups of the Faculty of Medicine of the; for the group of  21 -  IV year students of Faculty of Medicine of OSCE was conducted on February 11-12 of the same year. This time, 233 students were examined for two days. All students passed the exam according to the assigned registration number and performed the same task at different “stations” of Obstetrics – Gynecology within the same interval of time. Objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) allows simultaneous assessment of knowledge, communication and clinical skills. Due to the fact that it is decisively important for future doctors, the exam is of great importance.

OSCE exam was organized in two rounds, for simultaneous testing of 16 students. For  each circle the student was performing different  tasks: obstetric - gynecological examination, communication with standard patient.

Since 2008, OSCE in Obstetrics - Gynecology was preceded by organized training sessions, supported and maintained by the USAID, John Snow incorporated (JSI) and World Health Organization (WHO) for the staff of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, on the base of which world-class training program and training materials were developed.

The “Stations" with appropriate assessment papers/sheets were prepared. Professor Nikoloz Kintraia Head of Obstetrics - Gynecology Department, prepared the exam assignments/cases, short questions and tests for the students. Most of the examinees successfully coped with the tasks.

Organization and conducting OSCE exam was supported and maintained by the leadership of Tbilisi State Medical University: Prof. Zurab Vadachkoria, TSMU Rector, Zurab Ordzhonikidze, Chancellor, Professor Kakha Tchelidze, Vice – Rector, Prof. Tina Chikovani, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and "maintenance "- USAID-program and JSI project.

OSCE exam deserved  highly assessment  by both students and professors.
