Meeting of Kenneth Olivola and Bevin Kloepper with TSMU Rector

On September 17, 2014, the guests from Boston: Kenneth Olivola, Director of John Snow Incorporated (JSI), Bevin Kloepper, project coordinator and Nino Lomia technical expert of undergraduate education visited Tbilisi State Medical University . 

The guests were met by Prof. Zurab Vadachkoria, Rector of TSMU, Prof. Rima Beriashvili, Vice-Rector, Prof. Tinatin Chikovani, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Prof. Irma Manjavidze, Director of the Center of Clinical Skills. They discussed the ongoing processes at TSMU  and the important changes that are carried out in accordance with international standards.

Kenneth Olivola highly appreciated the activities of TSMU academic staff and the results showing sharp increase in teaching quality.

Since 2009 JSI started reforms in maternal and child health care services. They were aiming at training of obstetric-gynecologists. The resources were invested in the education of students as well.

The contract was signed between TSMU and JSI. Within the frames of the  program "maintenance" of United States Agency for International Development (USAID), changing of the curriculum according to international standards and assessment of learning and teaching methods were carried out.

According to Prof. Tinatin Chikovani, in this process were involved: Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Department of Family Medicine, the representatives of administration. World Class foreign Professors were invited to deliver lectures for academic personnel. Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) was implemented.

The guests mentioned the achievements made by the University and  thanked to the University Rector, Prof. Zurab Vadachkoria for his support and providing all necessary conditions during the reforming process. At the end, the guests visited the Clinical Skills Center, spoke to the students and underlined major achievements of the University.
