Essay Contest Awards Ceremony

On April 27, 2015, the Awards Ceremony for Winners of Essay Contest" Human Genome Project and its Positive and Negative Aspects in Medicine and Public Life" was arranged at TSMU.

April 25 is the International DNA Day dedicated to the vision of the future and achievements of genetics.

It is already 8 years human genetics societies of Europe and the United States imposed and celebrate this day with different activities, involving students from around the world.

This year, it was the first time Georgia joined to the celebration that was organized by Tbilisi State Medical University, Georgian Society of Medical Genetics and Epigenetics and the Scientific Club "FBG" (future belongs to genetics) and supported by the European Society of Human Genetics (ESHG).

Professor Elene Abzianidze, Head of TSMU Department of Molecular and Medical Genetics: Essay contest serves to development of knowledge in genetics as well as popularization of  this field in Georgia. More than 50 students from different universities of Georgia participated in the contest. Students demonstrated talent, creativity, thinking ... their works were sent to the experts, all the works were coded, so the results were completely unbiased. Great thanks to TSMU Administration, Ivane Tarkhnishvili Students' Scientific Society, and sponsors.

The students participating in the competition were given the gifts and the winner students cash prizes, respectively. The participants were handed their own DNAs, derived by the members of the Scientific Club "FBG"  during the ceremony, in front of everyone.

Exhibition-contest of posters was arranged in the lobby hall. Two winners were revealed.

The competition was highly praised by Prof. Zurab Vadachkoria Rector of TSMU and Prof. Temur Lezhava, Head of Department of Genetics at I. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University.

The students expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to participate in this exciting event.
