Opening of 2015-2016 Academic Year at Tbilisi State Medical University

Currently, since June 10, 1930 Tbilisi State Medical Institute accounts its 85th Academic Year (after establishment of the Faculty of Medicine it is 97th  Academic  Year). 2015-2016 academic year was officially opened.

Students were greeted and welcomed by: Prof.Zurab Vadachkoria, Rector of TSMU, Giorgi Shervashidze, Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Gigla Agulashvili Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Protection of Georgia,  Revaz Javelidze Deputy minister at Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs of Georgia, Prof. Dr. Mikhail M. Korda (Rector of I. Gorbachevsk Ternopil State Medical University, Ukraine), Prof. Yaroslav Valkovia (Poznan Medical University, Vice-Rector for Science and International Affairs, Poland), Professor Otto Dapunt (Department of Cardiac Surgery, Graz University Heart Center, Medical University of Graz,  Austria TSMU Honorable Doctor, Austria), Prof. Dr. Timo Ulrichs (Berlin Charité Medical University, Head of Koch-Mechnikov Forum Tuberculosis Section,  international health policy expert of Ministry of Health of Germany, TSMU Honorable Doctor, Germany), Prof. Dr. Irma Kvitsaridze (TSMU alumni, Chief Doctor at Radiation Therapy and Radiooncology Center, Innsbruck University Clinic, TSMU honorary Doctor, Austria), Professor Emeritus Martin Ritzen  (Karolinska University, Department of Women's and Children's Health Member of the Medical Nobel Council in 1984–2002, Sweden), Professor James Lee (TSMU visiting Professor, Harvard University, the US), Professor Tatiana Ilashchuk (Bukovinian State Medical University, Department of Propedeutics, Ukraine), Prof. Nikoloz Gongadze (Head of TSMU Department of Pharmacology), TSMU international students: Tharaka Dunuwila (twelfth semester student, Sri-Lanka) and Joanna da Costa (sixth semester student, Sweden) and  Kakha Abuladze, President of Students’ Self-Governmental Organization. He handed presents to eleven top-rated first semester students, according to the results of Unified National Examinations.

At the ceremony the anthems of Georgia and Tbilisi State Medical University were performed. The final part of the ceremony was ended with fireworks. Traditionally, white and blue balloons were floating in the sky, that has a symbolic significance leading to future growth and fulfilled dreams. At the end of the event  first semester students of different  faculties met with their Deans and foreign professors, talked about the training process and future profession.
